Who qualify for Sassa

1. Older Person’s Grant (Old Age Pension)

2. Disability Grant

Eligibility Criteria:

3. Child Support Grant

Eligibility Criteria:

  • For primary caregivers of children under 18 years old.
  • The caregiver must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee.
  • The household income must fall below the means test threshold.
  • Both caregiver and child must reside in South Africa.

4. Foster Child Grant

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The child must be placed in foster care through a court order.
  • The caregiver must provide the court order when applying.
  • No means test is applied.

5. Care Dependency Grant

Eligibility Criteria:

  • For caregivers of children with severe disabilities.
  • The child must be under 18 years old.
  • A medical assessment must confirm the severity of the disability.
  • Both caregiver and child must meet the means test.

6. Grant-in-Aid

Eligibility Criteria:

  • For individuals already receiving an older person’s, disability, or war veteran’s grant.
  • The person must require full-time care from another person.

7. War Veteran’s Grant

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must have served in World War II or the Korean War.
  • Be 60 years or older, or disabled.
  • Must meet the means test.

8. Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Provided for temporary financial aid in times of crisis, such as unemployment, disasters, or health crises.
  • Applicants must be South African citizens, permanent residents, or refugees.
  • For the COVID-19 SRD grant, individuals must be unemployed and not receiving any other income or grant.
