The NSFAS Online Application system should be used to submit applications from all students and learners who require financial help. WITS University advises candidates to preserve a duplicate of any supporting documents and print a copy of their online NSFAS application as a precaution. Keep an eye out for email correspondence from NSFAS as well. As soon as you submit your online application, please request a reference number. It would have been impossible for you to submit your application appropriately if you didn’t receive a reference number.

NSFAS Bursary Application Document At WITS University

To complete your NSFAS application, you will require the following:
Your personal email address and mobile number
copy of your birth certificate or identification
IDs for the spouse, parents, and/or guardians
A year’s worth of IRP5 or your proof of income (if applicable)
Proof of income from your spouse, parents, or guardian
No evidence of income will be required if you are a recipient of an SASSA award.
A completed and signed copy of the Disability Annexure A Form, available here, must be submitted by applicants with disabilities.
The Department of Social Development must complete and sign a Vulnerable Child Declaration before an applicant may submit an application.

How To Apply For Accommodation and Allowances

Log in to the student’s self-service portal
Click on ‘STUDENTS”
Click on “STUDENT SELF-SERVICE”
Enter your personal number(student number) and password
Click on “FINANCIAL AID”
Click on “ALLOWANCES AND ACCOMMODATION” then complete the form

Please note that students who qualify for allowances need to update their Banking details online by following the steps below:

Login to the students self-service portal
Click on the “My Bank Account” tile
Click on the “Add / Update Account” tab
Follow the instructions

What Happens To My Account’s Credit Balances

At the conclusion of the academic year, all credits must be remitted to NSFAS.

To eliminate the credit in the fee account, the financial aid and scholarships office will submit them as a charge to the fee statement.
These will still be processed the following year if they are not processed at the conclusion of the academic year.
The university is required to give this cashback to NSFAS.
