Sassa Disability Grant Application During Lockdown
Sassa Disability Grant Application During Lockdown
During the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic in South Africa, there were strict rules made that prevented many from coming out of their houses including people with disability. It is a very difficult time for people to even provide for themselves and family that’s why Sassa provides grants for people with physical or mental disabilities which make them unfit to work for a period of longer than six months. The South African Social Security Agency Disability Grant is a type of social grant that is designed to provide financial assistance to people with disabilities who are unable to support themselves due to their physical or mental condition.
Sassa Disability Grant provides a monthly payment to qualified applicants, and the amount of the payment is determined by the means test. In addition to the monthly payments, recipients of the Disability Grant may also be eligible for additional benefits, such as medical assistance, transport assistance, and special equipment to aid with daily activities. The value of the Disability Grant changes each year, currently, it is R1 990 per person for a month (as of October 2022). The Disability Grant value works on a sliding scale therefore people with higher private income will receive a smaller grant amount.
The disability grant can be applied for by visiting the Sassa office or by applying online through the online application portal, Whatsapp or the Sassa chatbot and applicants will need to provide documents to support their eligibility, such as a medical report confirming the disability, proof of income, and identification documents. Once the application is submitted, it will be evaluated by SASSA, and applicants will be notified of the outcome.
