NSFAS is the most often used method in South Africa for obtaining funding for education. Each year, a large number of new students apply to the NSFAS in the hopes of being accepted. Who Can Receive NSFAS Funding
Candidates must fulfill the four criteria listed below in order to be eligible for bursaries:
- A minimum combined annual household income of R350 000 is required of
- all SASSA grant beneficiaries.
- Being disabled, a household’s annual income cannot exceed R600,000.
- students whose monthly household income is less than R122,000 and who began their studies before 2023.
TVET Colleges NSFAS Fund
- Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
- Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
- Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
- Transport R7000 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

How Do I Apply For A NSFAS Grant While in College
Application for NSFAS Account Funding
- NSFAS Account Funding Request Submission:
- Make modifications to an existing account on myNSFAS or create a new one.
- Visit www.nsfas.org.za today.
- Decide which tab is “myNSFAS.”
- select “Register”
- Please check this box to allow NSFAS to validate your information.
- then type your ID precisely as it appears on your South African Identity Document into the box (ID)
- Your entire name and last name should be entered in accordance with your ID number.
- Fill in this area with your current email address.
- Verify your email address by doing so.
- Enter your mobile phone number.
- Establish a password.
- double-check your password
- include a picture of your ID.
- select “Register”
- An OTP that will expire after 24 hours will be issued to the provided email and mobile number.
- Once the OTP has been entered, click “Submit.”
- Your preliminary registration is now finished.
- The procedure for re-registering is now complete.
- To be taken to the online application form, click the APPLY tab.
Documents Needed For NSFAS Applications
- a verified copy of your birth certificate or South African ID. You must present a certified copy of your unabridged birth certificate if you are under 16 years old and do not have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card.
- IDs for the guardians or parents (death certificate)

- IDs for every resident of your home
- an official copy of your most recent test results or transcript. (If you are currently enrolled in Grade 12, you are exempt from submitting this.)
- records from the registrar of the university (if applicable)
- paperwork for lodging and trip (if applicable)
- Download the consent form, fill it out, and get the signatures of all applicants with disclosed income.
- Download and complete the Disability Annexure A Form if you have a disability.
