The government of South Africa through Sassa provides monthly grants to its citizens who are going through financial hardships due to the out-break of the covid -19 pandemic and other national disasters. In other to make the application process easy and simple, Sassa has now introduced the Govchatapp to speed up the application process. With the Govchat App, applications can be made by the use of phone devises from the comfort of their homes.

All South African nationals, lawful permanent residents, and refugees who satisfied the requirements for the SRD grant are given access to the SRD Govchat platform. The platform aims to enhance access to the grant and streamline the application process, especially for people who might have had trouble using existing application methods including online or in-person applications.

Requirement Needed When Using The Govchatapp For Sassa Application.

•  You must be South African citizenship or permanent residency, or refugee status.
• You must be unemployed and did not receive any form of income, including social grants or UIF payments, during the period of application.
• You must not be receiving any other form of financial support, including from your employers or any other government program.
• You must be 18 years or older.
• You did not qualify for any other COVID-19-related support or assistance.

To apply for an Srd grant through Govchat, you must follow the steps below:

• Dial 1347737# on your mobile phone to access the GovChat platform.
• Select “COVID-19 SRD Grant” from the menu options.
• Enter your South African ID or passport number when prompted.
