To check the status of their applications, students are invited to visit the myNSFAS self-service portal at www.nsfas.org.za. The status for those students will now show “Authorized for funding subject to registration” if funding has been approved, and “Application unsuccessful” if it has not.

Application for Reseasons under NSFAS will be unsuccessful

The following explanations could have led to the denial of your NSFAS application:

  • Your household’s income was verified by a third party, and NSFAS found that it exceeds the necessary threshold of R350 000 or R600 000 for those with disabilities.
  • Your household income is below that R122 000 threshold since you are a student who registered at a university before 2023.
  • You have used up all of the available funding from NSFAS under the N+ rule.
  • It is crucial to remember that the N+ rule is based on the number of years a student has been registered for tertiary education at any public university in South Africa, not the number of years the student has been supported.
  • If you’re still enrolled, they might have found that you didn’t meet the academic requirements, which is why they stopped funding you.

How To Appeal On MyNSFAS

Go to www.nsfas.org.za and log into your “MyNSFAS” account.

  • Select “Track Funding Progress” from the menu.

  • You can view the explanation for your application’s unsuccessful status once you land on the ‘Application Appeal’ page.
  • Following that, you can select an appeal reason.
  • then submit verified proof of your justification in the form of documents.
  • After that, click “Submit Appeal.”
  • On your myNSFAS account, you may now keep tabs on the appeal’s development.
  • After viewing the “unsuccessful” NSFAS application status, you have 30 days to submit your NSFAS appeal.

Document To Apply NSFAS

In order for NSFAS to approve your financing application in time for your enrollment at a higher education school, it is crucial that you provide the proper supporting documentation. The needed proof of documentation are:

  • All applicants must provide a copy of their ID. A temporary ID issued by the Department of Home Affairs will be accepted

  • Smart ID cards: a copy with both sides of the smart ID must be provided
