How Long Does Nsfas Take To Pay Allowance Funds

NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges. Many applicants are anxious about knowing when Nsfas is going to credit their wallets. All applicants will be informed of the results of their applications after NSFAS has confirmation from the establishment that they have been offered a fund.

You will receive information prior to the start of the academic year by SMS, email, and your myNSFAS account. For the academic year 2024/2025, the allowances are paid to students during the first week of each month over a period of 10 months. Amounts indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines.
What Does The Nsfas Bursary Cover In 2024/2025
The Nsfas bursary is only given to qualified students who are currently enrolled in any of the public universities or Tvet College in South Africa. The amount given covers the following:

PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES

  • Accommodation
    As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per annum
  • Living allowance R15, 000  per annum
  • Book allowances R5200 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

PUBLIC TVET COLLEGES

  • Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
  • Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
  • Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
  • Transport R7000 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

For the academic year 2024/2025, the allowances are paid to students during the first week of each month over a period of 10 months.

Who Is Qualified To Receive Nsfas Allowance In 2024/2025

The following are the persons who are eligible to receive Nsfas funds:

  • All South African citizens
  • All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
  • A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
  • Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

How To Track My Nsfas Application Funds

  • Go to www.nsfas.org.za and log into your “MyNSFAS” account.
  • Select “Track Funding Progress” from the menu. Examine the tabs for the application’s progress. By selecting the ‘Submit Appeal Tab’ if your application status shows a failed notification, you may file an appeal.

NSFAS must be reimbursed. Students take out loans to pay for their educational expenses. However, you can only use the loan until you have finished college or university, acquired a job, started your own business, or earned R30,000 or more per year in income.
