How Do I Apply For A NSFAS Bursary
Create a new myNSFAS account or make changes to an existing one.

Documents Required for NSFAS Applications
The following records must be certified copies and cannot be more than three months old. Your documents need to be certified by the South African Police Service or the South African Post Office. If you are under 18 or over 18 but STILL DEPENDENT on your parent’s or guardian’s combined family income, the following also applies:
- a certified copy of your South African ID card or birth certificate. You must show a certified copy of your unabridged birth certificate if you are under 16 years old and do not have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card.
- IDs for the parents or guardians (death certificate)
- IDs for the guardian or parents (and a death certificate if applicable)
- an official copy of your most recent test results or transcript. (If you are currently enrolled in Grade 12, you are exempt from submitting this.)
records from the registrar of the university (if applicable) - paperwork for lodging and trip (if applicable)
- Download the consent form, fill it out, and get the signatures of all applicants with disclosed income.
- Download and complete the Disability Annexure A Form if you have a disability.
Who Is Entitled for NSFAS Funding
be a resident of South Africa;
- Your household’s annual combined income is less than R350 000;
- You received a grant from SASSA;
- You are registering for your first undergraduate degree at a public university, a Year 191 or National Certificate Vocational program at a TVET institution, or both;
- You wish to obtain a degree by enrolling in a public university or TVET college;
- You have already registered for college, but your household’s annual income is less than R122 000;
- To be eligible for NSFAS financing to attend a TVET college, you must have finished Grades 9 and 10; to be eligible for NSFAS money to attend a university, you must have completed Grade 12.
NSFAS Bursaries Coverage
NSFAS scholarships at colleges and universities reimburse these expenses.

UNIVERSITY
- Accommodation
- As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per annum

TVET
- Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum

NSFAS Bursary Deadline
NOTICE: Friday, January 21, 2023 has been chosen as the new deadline for NSFAS 2024 applications. Last Friday, January 7, 2023, was the previous cutoff date.
