- Click Submit to send your NSFAS application by email.
On September 28, 2023, the NSFAS online submission platform will go live for the subsequent academic year. The only day that applicants may see and submit award applications is the NSFAS application opening day.
What Documents Are Needed For NSFAS Application 2023
NSFAS Application Documents Required
The following papers must be in certified copy form and cannot be older than three months. Your paperwork needs to be certified by either the South African Police Service or the South African Post Office. This also applies to those who are under 18 or older but STILL RELY ON THE COMBINED FAMILY INCOME of their parents or guardians:
- an authenticated copy of your South African ID or birth certificate. your unabridged birth certificate must be certified if you are under 18 years old.
- Neither an intelligent ID card nor a green bar-coded ID is valid for 16-year-olds.
- IDs for the guardians or parents (death certificate)
- IDs for the guardian or parents (and a death certificate if applicable).
- If you are employed, you may provide proof of your own or your guardian’s yearly household income in the form of pay stubs or appointment letters. (This applies to all sources of income for all members of the family, including grants from SASSA, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and retirement, life, disability, or other benefits received in a single payment or over the course of a year.)
Who Is Eligible For NSFAS Funding
Applicants must follow four essential requirements in order to be eligible for bursaries;
- each and every South African
- All SASSA award recipients are eligible for funding
- applicants whose total annual household income is less than R350 000
- A person with a disability: The household’s annual income cannot be more than R600,000.
- students whose home income is not more than R122 000 yearly and who began their studies before 2023
The deadline for NSFAS applications is 2023
NSFAS applications are now being accepted for 2023. Please submit your NSFAS financing application before September 28, 2022. For 2024, the current application cutoff date is January 31. Late submissions won’t be accepted, so be sure to submit your application before the deadline.

The Process of Sending NSFAS Consent Forms
After submitting the form, visit the MyNSFAS portal and log in. You can upload any missing supplemental materials. After you’ve uploaded the documents, choose “Submit Documents” from the menu.
- The process is finished once all the documents have been uploaded and you have received the message “Outstanding application documents submitted successfully uploaded.”
