Applications for bursaries under the government’s funding scheme NSFAS are now being accepted for university and TVET College courses in 2023. Due to the recent requests for free higher education, NSFAS now fully covers qualified students’ university and college tuition. However, the application deadline is this month! Opening Date for NSFAS Applications in 2023
NSFAS applications are now being accepted for 2023. Please submit your NSFAS financing application by September 28, 2023. The current deadline for 2024 applications is January 31. Make careful to submit your application before the deadline because it won’t be approved if it is submitted after.
Documents Needed To Complete NSFAS Applications
The following documents need certified copies, and they can’t be older than three months. The South African Police Service or the South African Post Office must certify your documentation. This also holds true if you are under 18 or above 18 but STILL DEPENDENT on your parent’s or guardian’s combined family income:
- a verified copy of your birth certificate or South African ID. A certified copy of your unabridged birth certificate must be provided if you are under the age of 18.
- Neither an intelligent ID card nor a green bar-coded ID is valid for 16-year-olds.
- IDs for the guardians or parents (death certificate)
- IDs for the guardian or parents (and a death certificate if applicable).
- If you are employed, you may provide proof of your own or your guardian’s yearly household income in the form of pay stubs or appointment letters. (This applies to all sources of income for all members of the family, including grants from SASSA, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and retirement, life, disability, or other benefits received in a single payment or over the course of a year.)

- Download the consent form, fill it out, and get the signatures of all applicants with disclosed income.

The procedures listed below should be properly followed in order to submit an NSFAS application.

- Sign up to open a MyNSFAS account.
- After selecting the Apply button, enter the required information in the field.
- Add the appropriate files as needed.
- Click Submit to email your NSFAS application.
On September 28, 2023, the NSFAS online application for the subsequent academic year will go live. The NSFAS application opening day is the sole day when applicants can see and submit award applications.
Who Can Receive NSFAS Funding
To qualify for bursaries, applicants must adhere to four fundamental standards;
- every South African national
- All winners of SASSA grants are eligible for funding
- applicants whose annual household combined income does not exceed R350 000
- A disabled person: The total annual household income cannot exceed R600,000.
- students whose home income is not more than R122 000 annually and who began their studies before 2024
