NSFAS Allowances 2023
NSFAS bursaries at colleges and universities are used to pay for these.
- amounts suggested for lodging,
- living stipend,
- conveyance and
- Learning materials must be in compliance with the most recent DHET rules that have been authorized.
UNIVERSITY
- Accommodation
- As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per annum
- Living allowance R15, of 000 per annum
- Book allowances R5200 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences
TVET
- Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
- Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
- Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
- Transport R7000 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

How To Activate sBux
- Receive SMS to welcome you to sBux
- Dial *134*176#
- Enter your ID number
- You are now verified on sBux
- Await an SMS from NSFAS with your password
- You will receive an SMS within 3 working days to inform you that the funds are available
VERIFY YOUR sBUX ACCOUNT
- Dial *134*176# (for free!) and it will ask you for your ID number.
- Enter ID number and wait 5 minutes.
- You will receive an SMS with your sBux password
Who Qualify To Receive NSFAS Allowance
To qualify for bursaries, applicants must adhere to four fundamental standards;
- every South African national
- All winners of SASSA grants are eligible for funding
- applicants whose annual household combined income does not exceed R350 000
- A disabled person: The total annual household income cannot exceed R600,000.
- students whose household income is not more than R122 000 annually and who began their studies before 2024.
How Do I Apply Online For The NSFAS And Get A Grant
Submission of an NSFAS Account Funding Request:
- Create a new account on myNSFAS or make changes to an existing one.
- Check out www.nsfas.org.za
- Go to the “myNSFAS” tab.
- Select “Register”
- Check the box to let NSFAS validate your information.
- then type your ID number as it appears on your South African Identity Document in the form (ID)
- Enter your full name and last name according to your ID number.
- Put your current email address here.
- Validate your email address.
- Enter your mobile phone number.
- Set up a password.
- Verify password
- upload a copy of your ID
- Select “Register”
- An OTP will be issued to the entered email and mobile number (this OTP expires after 24 hours)
- Enter the OTP and press “Submit”
- You have now completed your re-registration
- Click the APPLY tab to be directed to the online application form.
