NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) has opened their doors to all prospective students in South Africa to applly for financial support. The institution is a government initiative that provides financial assistance to eligible students to pursue their studies at tertiary institutions. The NSFAS funding covers tuition fees, meals, books, and accommodation, among other expenses.
The eligibility criteria for NSFAS funding include South African citizenship, household income, and academic performance.
NSFAS has released the availability of appeal applications for individuals whose bursary applications have been unsuccessful.

Please note that the appeal process is only for students who applied for funding before the 02 December 2023 closing date, with valid reasons to appeal (see section D on the form for the list).
Here’s How to submit your NSFAS Appeal
The process for tracking your Nsfas appeal may vary depending on the specific university or TVET College you are attending, but generally, you can follow these steps:
- Click here to visit the myNAFAS website
- Log into your myNSFAS account
- Click the Track Funding Progress option
- Check the application progress tabs.
- If your application status reflects an unsuccessful message, you may submit an appeal by clicking on the ‘Submit Appeal Tab’.
- Once you are on the ‘Application Appleal’ page, you can see the reason for your unsuccessful application status.
- You are then able to choose the appeal reason.
- Upload certified supporting documents to support your reason.
- Click ‘submit Appeal’.
Your NSFAS status will read “Active Appeal” once you have successfully submitted your Nsfas appeal. This Nsfas status indicated that your money has been conditionally granted and is awaiting final approval.
If your funding application is denied, your NSAFS status will change to “Application unsuccessful. However, If your funding application is granted, it will change to “Approved for financing subject to registration’.
