My Nsfas Bursary Application 2024/2025

Do you wish to study or are already studying at a public university or TVET college and come from a family with an income of R350 000 or less, then apply for a Nsfas bursary. NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges.

Applications for Nsfas bursary for the 2024/2025 academic year will be open from the 28th of September and the applications will be closing on the 31st of January. Applicants are invited to visit the online application portal of Nsfas by following the necessary guidelines and uploading all supporting documents to authenticate their application.

Applicants who are currently enrolled in any of the public Tvet colleges or Universities in South Africa are eligible to apply for the Nsfas Bursary. The 2024 application portal will be open for applicants from the 28th of September and the application window will be closing on the 30th of January. Applications that will be sent or submitted after the application deadline will not be processed.

Documents Needed To Apply For Nsfas Bursary In 2024/2025

Applicants are to submit the following documents to Nsfas when applying for bursaries:

  • a verified copy of your birth certificate or South African ID. You must have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card if you are under 16 years old.
  • a certified copy of your unaltered birth certificate should be shown.
  • IDs for the guardians or parents (death certificate)
  • IDs for the guardians or parents (death certificate if applicable)
  • IDs for every resident of your home
  • If you are employed, you may provide proof of your own or your guardian’s yearly household income in the form of pay stubs or appointment letters. (This rule is valid for all sources of income for all family members, including grants from SASSA, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), retirement, life, disability, or other benefits received in a single payment or over the course of a year.)
  • an official copy of your most recent test results or transcript. (If appropriate)
  • If you are currently in grade 12, you do not need to submit this.)
    records from the registrar of the university (if applicable)
  • paperwork for lodging and trip (if applicable)
  • Download the consent form, fill it out, and get the signatures of all applicants with disclosed income.
  • Download and complete the Disability Annexure A Form if you have a disability.

Who Qualifies To Receive My Nsfas Bursary 2024/2025

The following persons are eligible to apply for Nsfas bursary:

  • All South African citizens
  • All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
  • A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
  • Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

How Much Does The Nsfas Bursary Give To Its Applicants

Amounts indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines.

UNIVERSITY STUDENTS:

  • Accommodation
    As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per annum
  • Living allowance R15, 000  per annum
  • Book allowances R5200 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET  COLLEGE STUDENTS:

  • Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
  • Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
  • Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
  • Transport R7000 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

My Nsfas Bursary 2024/2025

An NSFAS application should be submitted by carefully following the processes outlined below.

  • Create a MyNSFAS account by signing up.
  • After clicking the Apply touch, fill up the field with the necessary details.
  • Add the required files as necessary.
  • To email, your NSFAS application, click Submit.

Applicants must bare in mind that, NSFAS needs to be paid back. Students borrow money to cover their tuition costs. The loan, however, is only required to be paid back once you have obtained your qualification, finished high school or college, found employment, launched a business, and your annual income is R30,000 or more.
