The following papers must be certified copies and they cannot be older than three months. If you are under 18 or over 18 but STILL DEPENDENT on your parent’s or guardian’s combined household income, the following also applies:

• an authenticated copy of your South African ID or birth certificate. If you’re under 16 years old and don’t have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card, you must provide a certified copy of your unabridged birth certificate.
• a verified copy of your birth certificate or South African ID. You must present a certified copy of your unabridged birth certificate if you are under 16 years old and do not have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card.
• IDs for the guardians or parents (death certificate)

• IDs for every resident of your home
• If you are employed, you may provide proof of your own or your guardian’s yearly household income in the form of pay stubs or appointment letters. (This rule is valid for all sources of income for all family members, including grants from SASSA, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), retirement, life, disability, or other benefits
• an official copy of your most recent test results or transcript. (If you are currently enrolled in Grade 12, you are exempt from submitting this.)
• records from the registrar of the university (if applicable)
• paperwork for lodging and trip (if applicable)
• Download the consent form, fill it out, and get the signatures of all applicants with disclosed income.
• Download and complete the Disability Annexure A Form if you have a disability.

How to Submit a Late Submission Using the NSFAS Website

• If you’re a returning student and you realized that you failed to upload your documents by the first deadline, don’t freak out. There are a few steps you need to take, but you can still submit your papers.
• Initially, log into your NSFAS account on the internet. Upon logging in, select the “My Documents” option. Your browser will take you to a page where you may upload your files.
• Select “Upload Document” next. By doing this, a new window will open, allowing you to select the file from your computer that you want to upload. Once you’ve chosen the document, click the “Open” button.
• Press the “Submit” button after that. With this, your document will be sent for processing.
