When NSFAS will open again for 2023, NSFAS 2023/2024
The South African government’s National Student Financial Aid Scheme offers financial aid to undergraduate students who have completed high school to assist in defraying the cost of their higher education. Its financing falls under the purview of the Department of Higher Education and Training. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was established in accordance with that scheme (Act 56 of 1999). NSFAS assists students from working-class and low-income families who would not otherwise be able to afford education in their pursuit of higher education and training and success. details are provided below.

What NSFAS Bursaries Cover
NSFAS bursaries at colleges and universities pay for these things.
- Amounts indicated for accommodation,
- living allowance,
- transport and
- Learning materials must be in compliance with the most recent DHET rules that have been authorized.
UNIVERSITY
- Accommodation
- Considering what the institution actually charges (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)

- R5 200 in annual book allowances
- For students living in catered houses, an incidental/personal care stipend of R2900 annually
TVET
- R24,000 a year for housing in an urban location
- R18,900 a year for lodging in a peri-urban setting
- R15,750 a year for lodging in a rural region
- Transport (up to 40 kilometers from the institution) (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per year

Who Can Receive NSFAS Funding 2024/2025
To qualify for bursaries, applicants must adhere to four fundamental standards;
- every South African national
- All winners of SASSA grants are eligible for funding
- applicants whose annual household combined income does not exceed R350 000
- A disabled person: The total annual household income cannot exceed R600,000.
- Students whose home income is not more than R122 000 annually who began their studies prior to 2022.
How to Submit a 2023/2024 NSFAS Online Application
NSFAS Account Funding Request Submission:
Make modifications to an existing account on myNSFAS or create a new one.
- Visit www.nsfas.org.za today.
- Decide which tab is “myNSFAS.”
- select “Register”
- Please check this box to allow NSFAS to validate your information.
- then type your ID exactly as it appears on your South African Identity Document into the box (ID)
- Your full name and last name should be entered in accordance with your ID number.
- Fill in this field with your current email address.
- Verify your email address by doing so.
- Enter your mobile phone’s number.
- Establish a password.
- guarantee password
- include a picture of your ID.
- select “Register”
- An OTP will be sent to the provided email and mobile number; this OTP expires after
Required Documents For NSFAS Applications 2024/2025
- The following papers must be in certified copy form and cannot be older than three months. Your documentation needs to be certified by the South African Police Service or the South African Post Office. This also applies if you are under the age of 18 or over the age of 18 but STILL DEPENDENT on the joint household income of your parents or guardians:
- a valid copy of your South African identification card or birth certificate
If you are under 18, provide a certified copy of your unaltered birth certificate. - 16 years old and without a smart ID card or green bar-coded ID.
- IDs for the parents or guardians (death certificate)
- IDs for the parents or guardian (and a death certificate if applicable).
- IDs for each person living in your house
- If you are working, you may use your pay stubs or appointment letters as evidence of your own or your guardian’s annual household income. (This applies to all forms of income for all family members, including grants from SASSA, Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and retirement, life, disability, or other benefits received in a single payment or over the course of a year.)
- a certified copy of your most recent transcript or set of test results. (If applicable)
- You don’t need to submit this if you’re in grade 12 right now.)
- records from the university’s registrar (if applicable)
- travel and lodging documentation (if applicable)
- Download the consent form, complete it, and distribute it to everyone who has declared their income.
- Download and complete the Disability Annexure A Form if you have a disability.

- Important Information: The NSFAS 2024 application deadline has been postponed to Friday, January 21, 2024. The previous deadline was this past Friday, January 7, 2024.
