Your 2023 NSFAS application was, in fact, turned down. You still have time to appeal if NSFAS denied your application for 2023. Follow the instructions on this page to successfully appeal an NSFAS denial. If you applied for NSFAS funding in 2023 but were rejected, use the MyNSFAS website to submit an appeal to NSFAS directly. You are entitled to file an appeal if your request for NSFAS financing is denied. There is no longer a deadline of 2023 for submitting a paper form. If you applied for financial help to attend school in 2023 before the end of November 2023, you can use your MYNSFAS student portal account to appeal the decision online.
What Is The Processing Time for NSFAS Appeals
On February 3rd, the NSFAS appeals procedure started. Any appeals must be made through the NSFAS self-service portal at www.nsfas.org.za by the student or applicant.
Students who are eligible for it will be granted immediate access to their accounts. The pupils have 30 days to submit an appeal if the evaluation is unfavorable.

- From the menu, choose “Track Funding Progress.”
- Check the tabs to see how the application is doing.
- You can submit an appeal if your application’s status indicates that it has been denied by clicking the Submit Appeal button.
- You can read the explanation for your application’s unsuccessful status once you land on the Application Appeal page.
- Explain in writing why you are appealing your application status in a motivational letter.
- Your inspiring message must be more than 1000 characters (words including spaces).
- To prove your motivation, upload certified supporting documentation. up to five documents.
- Submit an Appeal by clicking.
- You’ll be able to monitor the development of your appeal via your MyNSFAS account.
Document To Attach When Filling NSFAS Appeal
To support their appeal, students must make sure they upload all necessary supporting materials.
These could consist of, but not be restricted to
- medical,
- death of a member of the close family,
- a transcript of grades,
- payslips, etc
Please include supporting documentation to demonstrate your situation. Appeals that use an affidavit as support will be denied. Applications without supplemental materials won’t be considered.
Any unfinished paperwork linked to the appeal must be finished by the student or applicant within 14 days; otherwise, NSFAS will close the appeal application straight away. The student must follow this procedure and submit their appeal along with any necessary supporting documents within the allotted window of time.
How Long Do NSFAS Appeals Take
Students should use the self-service portal to check the progress of their 2022 NSFAS appeal after submitting their form and updating their portal’s information. If the appeal was successful, the site will read “Approved for funding subject to registration.” The status checker will display “Application Failed” if the appeal is denied. The appeal process could last up to 30 days. Sometimes things might move more quickly. However, the time it takes NSFAS to react to your application shouldn’t exceed a month.
