A student can now apply through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme if they intend to enroll in a public university or institution in 2023. (NSFAS). Students from homes with a certain income can apply for loans and scholarships from the government run NSFAS organization to attend one of the 26 public universities or a TVET college. A student must submit an application by the deadline for 2023 if they qualify for funding through the National Student Aid Scheme. (NSFAS). For 2023, NSFAS applications are currently being accepted. Applications for NSFAS grants must be filed by January 31, 2023. The current application deadline for 2023 is January 31. Please submit your application by the deadline as late submissions will not be accepted.
How to Apply Online for NSFAS
Follow the detailed steps below to send an NSFAS application.
- Check out www.nsfas.org.za
- Go to MyNSFAS and create an account.
- After selecting the Apply tab, fill out the necessary details in the area.
- upload the necessary files as necessary
- To submit your NSFAS application, click Submit.
The NSFAS online application for the following academic year will go open on September 28, 2022. Applicants can only view and submit grant applications on the NSFAS application opening date.
Application for NSFAS Grants
Once the NSFAS applications for 2023 are closed, late submissions won’t be accepted, so send in your application and all supporting materials as soon as you can.

- You must provide a copy of your birth certificate, as well as your ID and the IDs of your parents, legal guardians, and spouse.

Any applicant whose child has been identified by the Department of Social Development as a Vulnerable Child must completely fill out and sign a Child Declaration and Consent form.
Who Qualifies For NSFAS Funding
To be eligible for bursaries applicant must meet these basic principles;
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Students who started studying before 2023 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

- Living Allowance
- Book Allowance
- Incidental/Personal Care Allowance
But if you’re enrolled at the University of South Africa (UNISA), NSFAS will pay for the education packages listed below.
