For anyone interested, the online National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) application season for 2024 begins on September 28 and ends in January. You should read this, it is advised;
Opening of NSFAS in 2023
NSFAS applications are now being accepted for 2024. Please submit your NSFAS financing application before September 28, 2023. Applications for 2024 must be submitted by January 31. Make sure you do so because applications received after the deadline won’t be considered.
Who May Be Awarded A Bursary
You might be eligible for an NSFAS bursary if you’re a citizen of South Africa, intend to enroll in school in 2023, are presently enrolled in a public university or TVET college, and meet the requirements listed below.

- You must be a disabled individual whose yearly household income is no more than R600 000 or whose annual household income is no more than R350 000.
- students who began their university education before 2023 and whose household income is less than R122 000 annually
Can You Obtain NSFAS Funding for Six Years
If you meet the requirements for eligibility under the means test, NSFAS will only offer support for a maximum of five years based on the amount of money available each year. If you frequently change your program of study and it takes you longer than five years to complete your certificate, you will be responsible for paying for yourself until you graduate.
Required Documents For The Online 2023 NSFAS Application
You must upload the following files to your NSFAS Bursary Online Application in order to submit it for 2023:
- You must include both your personal phone number and email address.
- A copy of your ID or birth certificate must be provided.
- Additionally, you must present copies of your ID as well as the IDs of any parents, legal guardians, or spouses you may have.
- If your spouse, your parents, or your guardians are recipients of a SASSA grant and you can provide one year’s worth of IRP5 (if applicable) as evidence of their income, you do not need to provide any income documentation.

How To Submit An Online NSFAS Application
Application for NSFAS Account Funding:
- Make alterations to an existing myNSFAS account or create a new one.
- Visit www.nsfas.org.za to see.
- Set the “myNSFAS” tab to active.
- Decide to “Register.”
- Please check the appropriate box to allow NSFAS to validate your information.
- Please enter your ID number into the form exactly as it is shown on your South African Identity Document (ID)
- Enter your full name and last name using your ID number as a guide.
- Your current email address must be entered.
- Check the details of your email.
- Your mobile number should be entered.
- Create a password.
- Verify the ID image and password.
- Decide to “Register.”
- An OTP will be sent to the specified email address and mobile number, and it will be good for 24 hour
- Type the OTP in and click “Submit.”
- You have now finished the re-registration process.
- To be taken to the online application form, click the APPLY tab.

Submitting an NSFAS Consent Form
Once the form is finished, go to the MyNSFAS portal and log in. Extra materials that are still unfinished may be posted. You must first upload the documents before selecting “Submit Documents” from the menu.
- When all documents have been uploaded and you get the message “Outstanding application documents submitted successfully uploaded,” the process is finished.
- If you submitted the needed paperwork but there was still a problem, the documents are probably unclear. If you need assistance taking images using the phone’s camera, go to an NSFAS or NYDA office.
