The National Research Foundation (NRF) and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) have come to an agreement to create financing synergies for graduate and undergraduate students. As a result, the National Skills Fund (NSF), Honors, and B Tech postgraduate finance application processes will be managed by the NRF beginning in 2017. It is recommended that undergraduate students who obtained NSFAS support for their undergraduate degrees use the NRF Online Submission System to submit their applications for funding for honors or a B Tech.

The student must first choose the university where they will enroll for their last year of B Tech or Honours. Then, applicants seeking funding in 2023 must submit their applications to the university where they wish to enroll via the NRF Online Submission System by going to the following website: https://nrfsubmission.nrf.ac.za Applications must be submitted by January 31, 2023. Who Is Eligible To Apply NSFAS Postgraduate 2023

Eligibility

South African citizens only.

The eligibility criteria apply to applicants for Honours and final-year B Tech who are intending to register full-time at a South African public university.

Non-eligibility

South African permanent residents;
Applicants that already hold an Honours or B Tech degree; and
Students pursuing an undergraduate degree are not eligible irrespective of the degree for which they are enrolled.

Evaluation Criteria

All student applications (Table 2) will be evaluated taking into account the following factors:

students who previously received funding for their undergraduate degree through NSFAS or the University Financial Aid Scheme;
supporting a priority research field of inquiry;
Following the completion of the Honours or B Tech degree, the intention to pursue
a master’s degree; and the average percentage mark for the preceding degree

Student Nominations and NRF Approval

Depending on prior demand, stated need, and available money, the NRF will give each university a block grant of a certain number of bursaries. Institutions will review each application using a template provided by the NRF before selecting and proposing applicants to receive the available bursaries. The NRF will not approve any nominations that fall short of these criteria. Students who are unable to present an academic transcript due to unpaid expenses shouldn’t be denied admission. They must, however, include proof of any unpaid educational fees, along with the institution’s stamp and signature.
