Giving students a financial head start on their careers is the responsibility of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). One of these funding sources is the DHET Bursary Scheme, also referred to as the NSFAS bursary. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme’s (NSFAS) bursaries are viewed as a lifeline by many. Given how competitive the bursary is, a how-to manual would be quite helpful. To submit an online application, candidates must first register on the NSFAS website and create a MyNSFAS profile. By connecting onto their personal account through this profile, the applicant can verify information about their applications and finances at any moment during the year.

Who May Receive NSFAS Funding

To be eligible for bursaries, applicants must adhere to four fundamental standards;

  • every South African national
  • All winners of SASSA grants are eligible for funding
  • applicants whose annual household combined income does not exceed R350 000
  • A disabled person: The total annual household income cannot exceed R600,000.
  • students whose home income is not more than R122 000 annually and who began their studies before 2023.
