For the year 2023, the NSFAS bursary includes a few restrictions to make sure that only students who truly require financial aid are supported. NSFA APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS NEEDED DURING THE APPLICATION PROCESS
- Your own cellphone number and email address
- Copy of your ID or birth certificate
- ID copies of parents, guardian, or spouse (If applicable)
- Your proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable)
- Your parents, guardian, or spouse’s proof of income
- If you are a SASSA grant recipient, no proof of income will be required
- Applicants with a disability must submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form, click here to download
- An applicant who is recognized as a Vulnerable Child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form, click here to download.
NSFAS Online Application Aim
NSFAS plays an important role in supporting South African citizens financially, through schooling either in a University or a Tvet College.
Do NOT apply if you meet the listed below:
- Foreign student (NOT a South African citizen)
- Over R350 000 is made up of all household income each year.
- Previously completed a tertiary degree,
- If you have already applied and received funding
Who qualifies for NSFAS funding?
- Every South African citizen is eligible to participate in the NSFAS program.
- Each recipient of an SASSA award is given money by the NSFAS.
- Students whose total annual household incomes do not exceed R350 000
- Individuals with disabilities No household’s total income may be greater than R600,000.
- Applicants whose household income is less than R122 000 annually and who began their studies prior to 2018

- Students who have finish a previous qualification.
- Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
