NSFA APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS NEEDED DURING THE APPLICATION PROCESS

- Copy of your ID or birth certificate
- ID copies of parents, guardian, or spouse (If applicable)
- Your proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable)
- Your parents, guardian, or spouse’s proof of income
- If you are a SASSA grant recipient, no proof of income will be required

How Do I Apply for NSFAS Online
Create a new myNSFAS account or edit an existing one.
- Visit www.nsfas.org.za to learn more.
- Click the “myNSFAS” tab to go to it.
- select “Register.”
- Check the appropriate box to give NSFAS access to verify your data.
- Please enter the ID number from your South African identity document exactly as it appears on the form (ID)
- You should provide your entire name and last name using your ID number as a guide.
- The email address you are currently using must be entered.
- Ensure the accuracy of your email.
- Your mobile number should be entered.
- Create a password.

- An OTP will be sent to the provided email address and mobile number, with a 24-hour validity period.
- Click “Submit” after entering the OTP.

What NSFAS Bursaries Cover Is Listed Below
The following are the things that colleges’ and universities’ NSFAS bursaries cover.
- Accommodation
- According to what the university actually charges (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
- Transport (up to 40 kilometers from the institution) (up to 40 km from the institution) year, R7 500
- R15,000 per year as a living allowance
- R. 5200 per year in book allowances
- Students living in catered houses receive an incidental/personal care payment of R2900 per year.
Who Can Receive NSFAS Funding
The following four requirements must be met by candidates in order to be considered for bursaries:

- All SASSA grant recipients are required to fund applicants whose annual household combined income does not exceed R350 000.
- A person with a disability: The annual income of the household cannot exceed R600,000.
- students who began their study prior to 2022 and whose household income is less than R122 000 per year
NSFAS Allowances
The following allowances are provided to students by NSFAS:
Allowance for personal care
Every NSFAS-funded student receives a personal allowance worth R2,900 annually.
Transport Compensation
You qualify for the transport allowance and will get R7 350 per year if you reside less than 40 kilometers from the college.
Allowance for lodging
Students who reside in private housing more than 40 kilometers from the college should:
R15 750 is awarded to rural students each year.
Per-urban area students are given R18,900 annually.
Urban residents who attend school are given R25 200 annually.
