Monthly stipends are available to NSFAS students, who may also get funding from their educational institution in specific situations. The University of South Africa processes the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allowance payments twice a month (Unisa). The processing of allowances will take place during the first and third weeks of each month. Unisa will implement a new electronic funds transfer (EFT) mechanism to deposit the NSFAS allowances and refunds into student accounts. Only those people will be eligible to receive these payments. Who Need To Apply To UNISA
Interested parties who applied for admission to the 2023 academic year in order to obtain their first undergraduate degrees.
- returning students who did not enroll in classes during the year 2023 (i.e., took a year off), have an unfinished undergraduate degree and have not exceeded the N+ cap.
- Both returning and new students who did not sign up for coursework the previous academic year were approved by NSFAS in 2023.
- Students who desire to switch to the NSFAS DHET grant but are currently receiving assistance from another NSFAS scholarship.

- Got money from NSFAS in 2022.
- possess a degree or diploma from an undergraduate program already.
- are not a citizen of South Africa.

NSFAS Registration At UNISA

- If you were funded by NSFAS in 2022 but have not yet completed your degree, please make sure that you are temporarily registered during Unisa’s registration period while you wait for NSFAS funding confirmation for the 2022 academic year.
- Returning NSFAS students who received the money in 2022 but were denied funding in 2023 after appealing the decision: If you decide to hold off on paying the registration fee until you hear from the NSFAS, we sincerely appreciate your patience.
- First-time NSFAS applicants, please make sure you are temporarily enrolled during Unisa’s registration period while you wait for NSFAS funding confirmation. If your NSFAS application is delayed or rejected by the end of the registration period, you will need to find alternative funding before your registration is activated.
Note; You are exempt from paying the minimal registration charge if your NSFAS application is provisionally granted. Upon receiving confirmation of NSFAS financing from Unisa, your registration will automatically be enabled.

How To Appeal NSFAS Application
You may only file an appeal during the designated appeal application period if your NSFAS application is denied. There will be communication regarding the appeal’s application procedure and deadlines. At www.nsfas.org.za, new applicants must file an appeal directly with NSFAS.
