Sassa Application During Lockdown
Sassa Application During Lockdown
Strict regulations were implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in South Africa, preventing many individuals from leaving their homes, especially those with disabilities. Many are struggling to even support themselves and their families, which is why Sassa offers grants to South African citizens who are now locked up in their rooms and homes so they can make a meat for themselves and their family. Social relief of distress is temporary provision of assistance intended for persons in such a dire material need that they are unable to meet their families’ most basic needs.
Sassa Grant provides a monthly payment to qualified applicants, and the amount of the payment is determined by the means test. In addition to the monthly payments, recipients of the Sassa Grant may also be eligible for additional benefits, such as medical assistance, transport assistance, and special equipment to aid with daily activities. The value of the Disability Grant changes each year, currently, it is R1 990 per person for a month (as of October 2022).
The Sassa grant can be applied for by visiting the Sassa office or by applying online through the online application portal, Whatsapp or the Sassa chatbot since you cant go out to the Sassa office and applicants will need to provide documents to support their eligibility, such as a medical report confirming the disability, proof of income, and identification documents. Once the application is submitted, it will be evaluated by SASSA, and applicants will be notified of the outcome.

Since the Srd grant serves as a monthly allowance for the vulnerable, the applications are open in each month. The Sassa grant is intended to be given for a period of six month after which if the situation of the beneficiary does not change they can reapply for the next six month.
