SASSA Grant Value: How are SASSA Grants Paid?

The amount of money supplied to qualified South African citizens and households through the different social security programs run by SASSA is known as the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Grant Value. These subsidies are intended to aid vulnerable and marginalized populations, including the elderly, the disabled, and children from low-income families.

The SASSA provides a number of grant options, including grant-in-aid, child support, foster child, old age, and disability grants. Each program has a different grant value depending on the type of grant, the applicant’s eligibility, and other elements.

For instance, as of March 2023, the child support grant pays R475 per month to eligible families with children under the age of 18, while the old age grant provides R1,980 per month to eligible adults over the age of 60. 2023 SASAA Grant Budget

Enoch Godongwana, the finance minister, stated that the South African government would grant additional funds totalling R227 billion over the medium term in his address presenting the 2023 budget (held on February 22, 2023).

The COVID-19 SRD will be extended until 31 March 2024 with the help of R36 billion from this budget, which will be given to Social Development over the medium term.

According to the Finance Minister’s announcement, R30 billion will be utilized to fund other social grants that will increase in line with inflation. As a result, SASSA grant recipients will now receive the following sums:

(Note: There will be a rise on April 1, 2023, and another one on October 1, 2023)

1. The Older Persons Grant (old age pension) will increase to:

• R2090 for recipients between 60 and 74 years old (it will increase by R90 on 1 April 2023 and an additional R10 on 1 October 2023) – the current amount is R1990.
• R2110 for recipients over 75 years old (it will increase by R90 on 1 April 2023 and an additional R10 on 1 October 2023) – the current amount is R2010.

2. The Disability Grant will increase to R2090 (it will increase by R90 on 1 April 2023 and an additional R10 on 1 October 2023) – the current amount is R1990.

3. The Child Support Grant will increase to R510 (it will increase by R20 on 1 April 2023 and an additional R10 on 1 October 2023) – the current amount is R480.

4. The Child Support Grant Top-Up will increase to R250 (it will increase by R10 on 1 April 2023 and no further increase on 1 October 2023) – the current amount is R240.

5. The Foster Child Grant will increase to R1130 (it will increase by R50 on 1 April 2023 and an additional R10 on 1 October 2023) – the current amount is R1070.

6. The Care Dependency Grant will increase to R2090 (it will increase by R90 on 1 April 2023 and an additional R10 on 1 October 2023) – the current amount is R1990.

7. The War Veterans Grant will increase to R2110 (it will increase by R90 on 1 April 2023 and an additional R10 on 1 October 2023) – the current amount is R2010.

8. The Grant-In-Aid will increase to R510 (it will increase by R20 on 1 April 2023 and an additional R10 on 1 October 2023) – the current amount is R480. How are SASSA Grants Paid?
