Sassa Old Age grant Online Application 2024/2025
You can get a grant to see you through your old age through the Sassa old age grant. An older person’s grant is paid to people who are 60 years or older. This grant used to be called the old age pension. The Sassa grant is intended for South African citizens, refugees, asylum seekers, and special permit holders who are between the ages of 18 and 60 who have insufficient means to provide for themselves and family and are not eligible for or do not contribute to the UIF payment, and are not receiving social grants on their own behalf, and have no other financial support.
Applicants are to obtain an application form from the Sassa office which must be completed in the presence of a SASSA officer. A SASSA officer will be able to assist you or your appointed person, to complete the application form if you or they are unable to do so. After the application form has been completed in full, you will receive a dated stamped receipt, with the name of the SASSA official who assisted in your application. You will need to keep your receipt as proof of application.
Who Qualifies For Sassa Old Age Grant
You must:
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee
- Live in South Africa
- Not receive any other social grant for yourself
- Not being cared for in a state institution
- Do not earn more than R86 280 if you are single or R172 560 if married.
- Do not have assets worth more than 1 227 600 if you are single or R2 455 200 if you are married.

Sassa Old Age grant Online Application Date 2024/2025
Application for the Sassa old age grant is open each month and payments are also made each month. The grant applicants must reconfirm their grant applications at least once every 3 months. SASSA can decide if your grant must be reviewed. Your income as declared when you apply for the grant will form the basis for this decision.
You will be notified three months in advance of the date when the review will take place or the date on which the life certificate (proof that you are still alive) is due. If you receive your money through the bank, an institution or a procurator, you are required to fill in a life certificate at the SASSA offices every year.
Sassa Old Age grant Online Application Requirements For 2024/2025
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The applicant must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.
- The applicant and child must be residents of South Africa.
- Must not be less than 60 years.
- The applicant must not be in receipt of another social grant for him or herself.
- The applicant and spouse must comply with the means test.
- The applicant must not be maintained or cared for in a State Institution.
- The applicant must submit a 13-digit bar-coded identity document.
How Much Will Sassa Give Old Age People As Grants
The maximum amount that you will get is R1 980 per month. If you are older than 75 years, you will get R2 000.
How Will You Be Paid?
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will pay the grant to you through one of the following methods:
- cash at a specific pay point on a particular day
- electronic deposit into your bank or Postbank account (the bank may charge you for the service)
- institutions (e.g. old age homes).
Note: If you are unable to collect the money yourself, you can appoint a procurator at the SASSA office, or give someone power of attorney to collect the grant on your behalf.
