The R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is a temporary social grant provided by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to individuals who are unemployed and have no other source of income during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The grant is intended to provide financial assistance to those who have been affected by the economic downturn caused by the pandemic. The grant is R350 per month and the payments are done via EFT or SASSA card. To qualify for the grant, individuals must be 18 years or older, unemployed, and have no other source of income.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), according to reports, is implementing plans to start paying out social grant payments in January 2023 on January 3rd. The organisation has asked all clients to use the several options available to access the monies that have been disbursed, including using stores and ATMs.
On January 3, elderly people will receive the first grants, according to the South African Sassa website, then on January 4, disability funds will come next, and on January 5, child support grants.
