If you want to pursue your studies at the University of South Africa then you need to obtain a certain Admission Points Score to qualify for the programme you are applying for. Here is how to make use of the Admission Points Score calculator for Unisa.

How To Calculate APS Score

An Admission Points Score (APS) is a measure of your academic performance in your National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination as it relates to the requirements for a certain program that you may apply for.

The University of South Africa (Unisa) has different Admission Points Score (APS) requirements for each qualification that it offers.

Before students apply they must check whether they meet the statutory, college-specific admission requirements and the required APS for their chosen qualifications.

Students can make use of many APS calculators to find the exact courses they may qualify for.

You can calculate your own APS score by adding the points of your six best subjects in high school (excluding Life Orientation), the percentage you received for that subject will determine your points. The total number of points you receive is your APS.

How To Calculate APS Score

The point system works as follows:

  • 80% – 100% = 7 points
  • 70% – 79% = 6 points
  • 60% – 69% = 5 points
  • 50% – 59% = 4 points
  • 40% – 49% = 3 points
  • 30% – 39% = 2 points
  • 0% – 29% = 1 point

Once you have added all your points then you will have your APS score.

Students can visit Unisa’s website to see which qualifications they will qualify for with their APS.

As some Unisa qualifications have limited spaces available students should note that meeting the general and specific admission requirements for a qualification does not guarantee they they will be offered a space at the university.
