Currently, the 2023 application window for Nsfas is closed but it promises to start accepting applications for the 2024 academic year in the latter part of this year. Applicants who missed the 2023 application season can wait till the next academic year. The Nsfas application date for the 2024 academic year is said to be open from the 28th of September with a deadline date in January which also happens to be the beginning of a new academic year.
If you wish to study or are already studying at a public university or TVET college and come from a family with an income of R350 000 or less, then apply for Nsfas. NSFAS is a government organisation that falls under the Department of Higher Education and Training. It was created in accordance with the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to help financially disadvantaged students who want to continue their education at public universities or TVET institutes.

How To Create A Email Account
Students who are willing to apply for Nsfas, but do not have an email account are to create one first before the application process. The following are the methods that can be followed to create an email account:
- Open your internet browser and search for free email sites. Some examples include Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud.
- Select your email site of choice and choose ‘create an account’ since you do not have any login details yet.
- Set up your account following what steps the site needs you to follow. The most common information you will need to input is your first and last names and your date of birth.
- You will need to create a username and password. You may not be able to use the username you want if it has been taken and so you may need to use a different one.
- There are other additional options after creating your username such as adding a profile picture or other information. This is mostly optional.

Requirements Needed When Applying For NSFAS In 2024/2025
The following documents need certified copies, and they can’t be older than three months. The South African Police Service or the South African Post Office must certify your documentation. This also holds true if you are under 18 or above 18 but STILL DEPENDENT on your parent’s or guardian’s combined family income:
- a verified copy of your birth certificate or South African ID. A certified copy of your unabridged birth certificate must be provided if you are under the age of 18.
- Neither an intelligent ID card nor a green bar-coded ID is valid for 16-year-olds.
- IDs for the guardians or parents (death certificate)
- IDs for the guardian or parents (and a death certificate if applicable).
- If you are employed, you may provide proof of your own or your guardian’s yearly household income in the form of pay stubs or appointment letters. (This applies to all sources of income for all members of the family, including grants from SASSA, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and retirement, life, disability, or other benefits received in a single payment or over the course of a year.)
an official copy of your most recent test results or transcript. (If you are currently enrolled in Grade 12, you are exempt from submitting this.) - records from the registrar of the university (if applicable)

- Download the consent form, fill it out, and get the signatures of all applicants with disclosed income.
- If you have a disability, download and complete the Disability Annexure A Form.

How To Create My Nsfas Account 2024/2025
The process below will guide students to create an account with Nsfas for the year 2024:
- Visit the official website of Nsfas@ https://www.nsfas.org.za
- Click on the myNSFAS tab in the top right corner.
- Fill in your personal details as they appear on your Identity Document (ID).
- Fill in your valid contact details.
- Accept the terms and conditions by ticking the box provided.
- Create a password to protect your account, confirm the password then click on ‘Create’.
