How To Get Your Nsfas Allowance In 2024/2025
NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges. In the year 2024, Nsfas will continue giving allowances to applicants who are qualified to receive funds in other to continue with their education.
Allowances from Nsfas will be paid in cash to the student via the Fundi system. Once the allowances are debited to your student class fee account, you will receive an SMS message from Fundi to upload your banking details. After performing validation checks, an NSFAS allotment is given to eligible students. Nsfas will send the student an SMS message once the allocation has been made. Please be aware that the registration prepayment block will automatically remove five hours after the NSFAS funds are allocated.

How Much Does The Nsfas Allowance Cover For Applicants In 2024/2025
UNIVERSITIES
- Accommodation
As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence) - Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per annum
- Living allowance R15, 000 per annum
- Book allowances R5200 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences
TVET COLLEGES
- Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
- Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
- Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
- Transport R7000 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum
How much Allowance does NSFAS Give Students Per Month?
The stipend levels listed below are restricted to a single Pre-Vocational Learning (PLP), National Certificate (Vocational), or R191 course per student per year. The DHET-NSFAS Bursary Rules for 2024 are the foundation for the material that follows:
- Personal care costs – R2,900 per month paid annually
- Transport allowance – R7,350 per month paid annually
- Private residents – R25,200 paid monthly on an annual basis for accredited properties
- Hostel accommodation – R33 000 per year Annual
- NCV (Including PLP) – 10 payments per month R191 Semester – 5 monthly payments during the semester R191 Trimester – 3 monthly payments during the Trimester
